CARVALHO, Raquel da Silva Aguiar et al. Prevalence of Cognitive Disfunctions in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2021, vol.24, n.1, pp. 39-50. ISSN 1516-0858.

Individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are at higher risk of developing some degree of cognitive dysfunction when compared to the general population. Considering the importance of prevention and diagnosis of cognitive changes in patients with T2D, as well as the few studies in this area, the objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of cognitive dysfunctions in patients with T2D in clinical treatment through the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test and associate the dysfunction indexes with neuropsychological characteriscts, sociodemographic aspects and clinical variables. This is a cross-sectional study whose sample was composed of 120 participants who took the MoCA global cognition test. Was found a prevalence of cognitive changes in 86.7% (MoCA ≤ 26) of the sample, which was associated with the variables age, education, and blood pressure. This study showed a high prevalence of cognitive dysfunctions in the studied populations, what should be taken into account by the multi-professional teams that work with this audience, as well as in the development of strategies that help the patient in understanding his diagnosis and adherence to treatment.
