This research aimed to investigate the humanization actions used by the multidisciplinary team in the adult ICU and reflect on its importance for patients and family members, as well as understand the challenges faced in the execution of humanization actions and the impacts of the lack of humanization in hospitals. An integrative literature review was made with searches in the Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus and PsycNET databases. Initially, 77 articles were identified and, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles on the theme remained. One of the results highlights that it is necessary to have a humanized view of the team in order to offer a humanized assistance. Some care actions for patients and their families were raised to provide better quality services. Challenges for the implementation of humanization in the ICU were also found, such as the plurality of meanings of the concept of humanization, the professional's working conditions and the ICU environment itself. The functioning of management and the lack of communication are also obstacles to be evaluated.
