The palliative care approach at a national level is still recent and unknown, and the few empirical studies conducted so far have privileged knowledge of health professionals' practices, giving low visibility to support professionals. Intending to minimize this occurrence, the present study aims to know the discourse on palliative care of support employees who work in a reference hospital in oncology, in the state of Paraíba. Presenting the discourse of support hospital staff on palliative care confers an innovative character to the study. Eleven support professionals participated, including cupbearers, doorkeepers, janitors and receptionists. Data has been collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview, analyzed through the Content Analysis methodology, using the technique of enunciation, then presented in the trees of meaning association. The study demonstrates that these support professionals have limited knowledge or ignore the philosophy of palliative care, and do not recognize their practice as important and complementary to the palliative care actions developed by health professionals. It is possible to conclude that more investment is necessary for the training of all professionals who provide assistance to patients in palliative care.
