Psychological variables are related to coping of oncological patients, highlighting the importance of early intervention. Objectives: Understand the socio-demographic and clinical profile of patients who show psychological risk by screening them using the Psychological Risk in Oncology (IRPO) during the radiotherapy treatment. Method: 262 medical records of adult patients who had undergone radiotherapy treatment in 2018 and 2019 and responded to IRPO were evaluated. Results: 30.7% of the sample indicate risk of poor psychological adaptation. The median age of this population was 58 years old, the malignant breast neoplasm is the most prevalent one (44.5%). Patients with a psychiatric history had a higher score among the parameters of illness perception, emotional social support, active coping, current distress and significantly higher psychological risk. The instrumental and social support variables contributed to a higher psychological risk in women compared to men. Likewise, the active coping variable contributed to psychological risk in elderly patients compared to adults. Conclusion: The mental health history is correlated with the psychological risk of the oncological patient, so are the absence of active coping with the elderly and social support with female patients. Being acquainted with such characteristics favors the quality of the interventions.
