Animal assisted interventions (AAI) in the hospital stand out for their solidarity character by providing biopsychosocial improvements in patients, families and medical staff, but plausible for triggering vulnerabilities if they disregard the specific needs of each component of the intervention, human and non-human. Our objective was to map AAI programs and experiences in a hospital environment considering benefits and vulnerabilities, testing the hypothesis of differences in the national and international scenario. To this end, an integrative review of the content published in the scientific and journalistic digital environment was carried out. While in the popular sampling the emotional benefits were highlighted, with few references to limitations and vulnerabilities, in the scientific context, formal and unstandardized intervention protocols were identified as potential generators of vulnerabilities. Adoption of attitudes based on precaution, prudence, protection and prevention were associated as potential mitigating situations that generate human, animal and institutional vulnerabilities in the promotion of AAI.
