OLIVEIRA, Indira Caldas Cunha de  e  FRANCISCHINI, Rosângela. The importance of playing activities: narratives of working and nonworking children. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2003, vol.5, n.1, pp. 41-56. ISSN 1516-3687.

Among several aspects related to childhood we have chosen to study the rights of the children to playing, which is considered an important activity for their development according to several theoretical perspectives in Psychology, among which we highlight the social-historic approach. Yet it is known that the benefits of such a right are not enjoyed by all children. Thus, in our research we intended to investigate how groups of children, who live upon different development conditions, have experienced the playing activities in their current daily life. The corpus of study was built by means of using Pinochio’s story applied to an interview, it is constituted by narratives of working and non-working children. We have investigated the presence and the importance of the playing activities into these children’s daily life. The results show different ways through which each group experienced the playing activities; children who work, unlike those who do not, did not mention spontaneously playing activities as taking part in their daily life. The differences between both groups might be understood as a consequence of the different socio-historical contexts in which they are included.
