Abstract

MACHADO, Maria Renata Coelho. Narratives of women victims of abuse: steps in the process. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2004, vol.6, n.1, pp. 97-104. ISSN 1516-3687.

This article strives to present a discussion on the treatment, which occurred under a supervised internship for Legal Psychology, and its results, of women, victims of abuse and being cared for (residing) in shelters, through reading their narratives. The process of developing the treatment model is concomitantly discussed with analysis of the narratives. The model for providing support to the women has specific meaning related to the posture of receptive and respectful listening, just as the initial approach is characterized by the objective to implement an inclusive posture. The reference that guided the treatment was of systemic theoretical basis, using aspects of the narrative approach. The emphasis of the narrative approach focuses on a personal competence to broaden her existential possibilities through revising the ideas about herself, her problems, relationships and possibilities that life offers.

Keywords : Family violence; Battered females; Legal Psychology.
