HUBER, Manoela Ziegler  and  SIQUEIRA, Aline Cardoso. Parents by adoption: adoption in the perspective of couples in waiting line. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.2, pp. 200-216. ISSN 1516-3687.

The wait for a child in the adoption process is permeated by intense feelings and expectations about the future. This study aimed to know the adoptive parents perception about adoption, verifying the macrosystem aspects of adoptive parents, regarding the Bronfenbrenner's theorical approach. Four couples enabled to adopt, who were waiting for adoption from six months to more than three years, participated on this study. Semi-structured interviews and focal groups were used in the collect data. Results revealed a preference for babies; concerns regarding genetic inheritance; and anxiety towards the disclosure and the perception of failure concerning parenting, if children desire to look for the biologic parents, confirming such failure. The couples identified a need for support during the waiting moment and after adoption, enabling the expression of their anxiety and orientation. Thus, there is a need to create such spaces, in order to favor the adoption process.
