Abstract

HAGEN, Vivian; MIRANDA, Luciene Corrêa  and  MOTA, Márcia Maria Peruzzi Elia da. Morphological awareness: an overview of scientific prodution in alphabetic languages. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.3, pp. 135-148. ISSN 1516-3687.

This study aimed to review the scientific production nationally and internationally indexed in Scielo, Pepsic, and Capes journal (Web of science, and Eric Psychinfo), between 1999 and 2009, on the relationship between morphological awareness and literacy. Empirical studies that described the relationship of morphological awareness and literacy were selected. Seventy-six papers were identified. They were analyzed considering the following aspects: the age of the samples of interest, the countries where the publication were more frequent, the years of publication and the most frequent keywords. Papers that were excluded were literature review, papers dealing with the syntactic awareness without focusing on morphosyntactic or derivational morphology, papers with bilingual subjects, and book chapters. The results point to the need for more publications on the subject, and they show that this is a relatively new theme and many issues still need to be addressed.

Keywords : Metalinguistic awareness; Morphological awareness; Phonological awareness; Reading; Writing.
