Abstract

BEDIN, Dulce Maria  and  SCARPARO, Helena Beatriz Kochenborger. Integrality and mental health in the SUS under the light of Edgar Morin's complexity theory. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.2, pp. 195-208. ISSN 1516-3687.

The article situates the historical processes that put the concept of integrality in scene, through a contextualization on the building of the Unique Healthcare System (SUS), placing the principles that support the health policies and their relations to integrality. In the field of collective health, the term began to present many senses, as in this study, which associates it to the complexity and transdisciplinarity. It redeems the process of building the Brazilian psychiatric reform, to reflect on the possibilities of integrality practices in mental health. The concept of integrality is perceived as being imbricated throughout the reflection on changes in the models of healthcare, expressing the wish to build a fairer and more solidary society. The links between integrality and complex thinking are possible ones, associated to the issues of mental health as an alternative to overcome the traditional models that are still there.

Keywords : comprehensive healthcare; Unique Healthcare System; mental health; health services reforms; social psychology.
