Abstract

This case study aimed to identify and discuss the influence of organizational culture in (re)construction of workers' identity belonging to a company in the sector of waste transport and treatment in southern Minas Gerais (Brazil). The research included participation of fourteen employees of that institution, having been used participant observation and semi-structured interview as data collection techniques. In assessing of found information, we used content analysis, showing that most of workers act in a standardized way regarding to thinking, feeling/perceiving and acting in relation to work and to the company. It was concluded that organizational culture elements (values, feelings and behaviors) can influence in (re)construction of workers' identity, revealing as fundamental factors to the understanding how they perceive the company and build their self-concept. These elements prove being relevant for formulation of effective people management policies.
