Abstract

This article discusses the process of creating the character in the theater, focusing on the cognitive devices that disrupt the operation mode of thought coined in modernity. As a conceptual tool it was used the concept of becoming-conscious, which refers to the act of becoming aware of something that dwells in a pre-reflective, affective, and opaque way. The objective is to present the perception of the actor on the construction of character and its implications on the livelihoods of the artist from the investigation of the relationship stage-actor-audience. Based on a ethnographic study of a play, which was conducted the monitoring of rehearsals and public presentations, it is noted that each actor, in rehearsals and performances of the piece, updating the becoming-conscious, embarks on such a learning process, creating their characters and recreating himself in a cadence between himself, the public and space used to work.
