MEDEIROS, Letícia Galery; ALMEIDA, Rosa Maria Martins de; RIGOLI, Marcelo Montagner  and  KRISTENSEN, Christian Haag. Psychiatric disorders in burn victims. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp. 56-65. ISSN 1516-3687.

The current study investigated the prevalence of mental disorders among 24 adult victims of severe burn, who responded to a structured clinical diagnostic interview. Interviews were conducted at a specialized treatment unity, in a primary care hospital. Outcomes showed that most patients (58.3%) have at least one past or current mental disorder. Regarding lifetime prevalence, mood disorders are the most frequent diagnostic category (n = 7), followed by substance use disorders (n = 3). Anxiety disorders are the most frequent current diagnostic category (n = 12), followed by substance use disorders (n = 8) and mood disorders (n = 4). It was found a significant correlation between mood disorders and anxiety disorders (p = 0.029). The findings point to the presence of mental distress among severe burn victims, suggesting the need for specific interventions.
