Abstract

CHERER, Evandro de Quadros; QUINTANA, Alberto Manuel  and  LEITE, Carina Teixeira. Psychological impact of illness: a report of interventions in nephrology. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp. 66-73. ISSN 1516-3687.

Before getting ill, the patient may be affected by conflicting feelings, and the disease may be linked to the feeling of being guilty, secondary gain from illness and even being referred through humor. Therefore, the present work aims in reporting the experience of the psychological service provided to patients in a nephrology unit at a public hospital in Rio Grande do Sul. This article is a descriptive study of an experience report type. The patients were seen by psychology student through the brief supportive psychotherapy. From these attendances, it became clear the search for satisfaction was perceptible by the character of punishment, humor and even by the secondary gain tied to getting ill. Thus, through the psychology service, it was found that kidney disease upholds a series of conflicts in the individual, legitimizing the need for a therapeutical area, where it may be possible to find the relief from suffering.
