Abstract

LOBO, Beatriz de Oliveira Meneguelo et al. Group cognitive‑behavioral therapy for depression and anxiety symptoms in elderly: preliminary results. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp. 116-125. ISSN 1516-3687.

Symptoms of depression and anxiety are frequently observed among elderly patients. The present study aimed to verify the effects of group cognitive‑behavioral therapy (CBT) in 6 elderly patients (ages between 64‑73 years). Symptoms of depression and anxiety, and memory complaint were assessed pre and post‑intervention. The outcomes showed a marked decrease of the assessed symptoms after seven CBT sessions, as well as an overall post‑treatment correlation between anxiety, depression and memory complaint. Despite limitations regarding size sample, these findings suggest that brief group‑CBT can be a useful therapeutic strategy for this population.
