Abstract
SANTOS, Paola Lucena; BOFF, Raquel Melo and KONFLANZ, Silvano Sperb. Relevance of the assessment of personality traits required for drivers. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.3, pp. 101-110. ISSN 1516-3687.
In Brazil, the assessment of personality traits in conductors is required. However, researches in the area do not show conclusive results that certain personality characteristics would be associated with the increased occurrence of traffic violations and accidents. Thus, this study aims to review international empirical studies that have evaluated the possible link between involvement in accidents or violations of traffic and personality traits in drivers in order to determine whether the imposition of this requirement has scientific basis. This article is critical nonsystematic review of literature. A search for articles was conducted in the electronic database Scopus, with the descriptors (personality) AND (traffic accidents OR automobile driving OR traffic violations), indexed on MeSH. It was concluded that there is scientific basis behind the need for assessment of personality traits that may be considered distal predictors of rates of accidents and violations of traffic.
