FORTES, Leonardo de Sousa; PAES, Santiago Tavares; AMARAL, Ana Carolina Soares  and  FERREIRA, Maria Elisa Caputo. Inappropriate eating behavior and body dissatisfaction in young swimmers according to sociodemographic variables. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.3, pp. 123-133. ISSN 1516-3687.

The purpose of this study was to compare body image dissatisfaction and eating behavior in young athletes according economic and competitive levels. 64 athletes participated, being 22 females and 42 males. We used the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) to assess body image dissatisfaction and eating behavior, respectively. The economic classification was obtained by applying the "Criterion of Economic Classification Brazil". We used qualitative analysis to evaluate demographic data such as age, gender and competitive level. We used the Kruskal Wallis test followed by Bonferroni post hoc. No differences were identified for dissatisfaction or eating behavior between the economic and competitive levels. The results of this study allow us to conclude that both body image dissatisfaction and eating behavior were similar according to economic and competitive levels in swimmers.
