Abstract

MIGUEL, Fabiano Koich  and  PRIMI, Ricardo. Creation of emotional expressions videos using multimedia stimuli. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.1, pp. 155-168. ISSN 1516-3687.

The instruments for emotional intelligence assessment based on performance usually use pictures of people expressing emotion. The present study aimed to create and implement a systematic procedure for filming people that could generate snippets of emotional expressions in a way that could be used for an assessment that is more close to reality. We created a presentation using photos, sound and a movie piece so the 22 participants of the study could watch while being filmed. The filmed expressions were compared with the theoretical expectations with respect to the type of eliciting stimulus and the facial features, resulting in 355 snippets of 3 to 8 seconds to be used in emotional perception assessment. Qualitative data were also found, such as base emotions, differences between authentic and fake expressions, mixed emotions and emotional regulation, discussed in the article.

Keywords : emotional intelligence; emotions; facial expression; evaluation; psychological tests.
