Abstract

The study of motivation has shown important value in the comprehension of the process of teaching and learning. The self‑determination theory comprehend that human being is moved by satisfaction of basic psychological needs such autonomy, competence and belonging, having motivational styles that goes from demotivation to an intrinsically motivated behavior. The aim of the present article was to investigate the motivation to learn in 20 undergraduate students of Psychology in a private university in the city of São Paulo. The results corroborate the literature once the students presented motivational profiles more autonomously motivated, and the existence of different motivational orientations simultaneous. Was discovered a significant importance of the participation of environmental factors such as teacher and task value in promoting motivation to learn, rescuing the need for an education that makes possible the connection between theory and professional practice enabling to have a sense of what is learned.
