Abstract

SARTORO, Edimar Roberto de Lima  and  ZIBETTI, Marli Lúcia Tonatto. The eaning attributed to study activity by Elementary School Students. Psicol. teor. prat. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp. 141-151. ISSN 1516-3687.

In this paper, we aim at discussing the meaning that elementary school students give to the study activity. Our research was conducted with lower class adolescents, students who had to repeat the school year in the state of Rondônia – Brazilian Amazon. For the conduct of our qualitative research, we used focus groups and interviews. Based on the Historical‑Cultural Psychology, we suggest that education is an intentional activity and its main function is to socialize human achievements in order to reach full development of individuals. Our study denotes that, for the students, school does not represent a place of learning, and the educational process is empty, tiresome and repetitive. The pass mark seems to be the only aim and the meaning of the school process is produced from friendships and encounters among school mates.

Keywords : adolescents schooling; historic‑cultural psychology; study activity; meaning; elementary school.
