Abstract

MURTA, Claudia  and  FALABRETTI, Ericson. The automaton: between the machine body and the one's own body. Nat. hum. [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.2, pp. 75-92. ISSN 1517-2430.

This paper discusses initially the idea of machine body in Descartes and machine man in La Mettrie. Secondly, it examines the scope of those ideas for contemporary theories of behavior. In a third part, this work presents how Merleau-Ponty opposes the notion of one's own body to the machine body to finally discuss how Lacan proposes a new understanding of the notion of machine body and automaton behavior.

Keywords : automaton; machine body; mechanism; phenomenology; psychoanalysis.
