FURTADO, Rafael Nogueira. Discontent in the human park: from the humanism crisis to biotechnology. Nat. hum. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.1, pp. 84-99. ISSN 1517-2430.

This article critically discusses Peter Sloterdijk's thesis that the contemporary crisis of humanism would contribute to the emergence of biotechnology as an instrument of human formation. This work comprises two steps. First, it tries to elucidate the role of humanism in the Western civilizational process and the factors involved in the crisis identified by the author. For the consecution of this step, Sloterdijk's thought will be articulated to the writings of Heidegger and Nietzsche, allowing us to reflect on the overcoming of humanism. Therefore, the second stage of this work problematizes the anthropogenic effects of biotechnology. Sloterdijk's thinking will be articulated to recent debates on the ethical implications of human enhancement technologies. Through this analysis, it is intended to recognize acceptable applications of biotechnology.

Palavras-chave : Sloterdijk; humanism; biotechnology; bioethics; genetic technologies.
