Abstract

GUEDES, Alexandre. Temporality, authentic meaning of existence and the question of fundamental ontology in Heidegger. Nat. hum. [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.2, pp. 219-236. ISSN 1517-2430.

This article deals with the meaning of Being, a central issue in the work of Martin Heidegger: Being and Time. Understanding the meaning of Being by itself, without reference to a specific being, is the objective of his Fundamental Ontology. For this, Heidegger begins his investigation of the meaning of Being in general through the search for the meaning of Being of Dasein. This method can lead to the understanding that the meaning of Being in general is "taken away from" the meaning of Being of Dasein, what would make impossible the establishment of Fundamental Ontology as an understanding of the Being without relation to the being. Therefore, our aim is to clarify that temporality (Zeitlichkeit) is the meaning of the Dasein's being, that it is transcendent to him, and that, when we authentically understand our existence, we are already using temporality and not the contrary. Furthermore, we will see that there is a difference between temporality (Zeitlichkeit) and temporality (Temporalität) and that this difference will be decisive for the understanding of the investigation of Fundamental Ontology.

Keywords : Temporality; Existence; Fundamental Ontology.
