Abstract

SANTOS-PREZOTO, Helba Helena; D`AGOSTO, Marta; DAEMON, Erik  and  PREZOTO, Fábio. A new technique of individual marking for field studies with Gallus gallus Linnaeus, 1758. Rev. etol. [online]. 2002, vol.4, n.2, pp. 143-145. ISSN 1517-2805.

This study describes a new technique of individual marking for observation and monitoring of fowls Gallus gallus in field conditions. The technique was tested with 25 fowls, from November 2000 to October 2001, in the rural area of Boa Vista farm, state of Minas Gerais. Individual marking was done with numbered plastic tags fastened to one of each fowl's legs. Individuals quickly habituated to the tags. Advantages of the technique are: good visibility, high resistance, easy adaptation to differently sized individuals and low cost. This tagging technique may increase the reliability of data collection in the field with G. gallus.

Keywords : Marking; Fowls; Gallus gallus.
