Abstract

WIELENSKA, Regina Christina. The investigation of some aspects of therapeutic relationship in supervision sessions. Rev. bras. ter. comport. cogn. [online]. 2000, vol.2, n.1, pp. 09-19. ISSN 1517-5545.

Five supervision sessions of behavior therapy, structured according to a special procedure, were conducted in order to gather data concerning controlling variables of the behavior of both therapist and her client. The analysis of therapist's verbal reports during supervision suggested that her behavior was controlled by the client's behavior and also by variables originated in contexts other than the session itself. The supervisor, who aimed to increase variable control, was responsible for the specificity of data obtained and its subsequent analysis. Additionally, it is discussed whether data obtained can be generalized to other situations, and the possibility of applying this procedure to research and clinical practice.

Keywords : supervision; behavior therapy; controlling variables; therapeutic relationship.
