SALES, Cibele Alves Cliapadeiro Castro  and  KERBAUY, Rachel Rodrigues. Report and recording of breast pain and its relatíonship with environmental variables. Rev. bras. ter. comport. cogn. [online]. 2000, vol.2, n.2, pp. 137-146. ISSN 1517-5545.

Breast pain or mastalgia is a chronic pain, frequent in women who attend mastology clinics. It is related to various etiologies, including the emotional one. Works that raention the emotional cause neither describe the pain nor make a functional analysis. The present work has the objective of describing breast pain through reports and registrations, with the identification of related environmental variables. Fifry women with breast pain were interviewed. The specific pain occurred at any time of the day, from one to ten years, with physical activity or not, at work or in leisure times, feeling uncomfortable internai states, whose intensity led to coping behaviors, ali suggesting that this pain is multidetermined. For some women the characteristic of reporting the pain suggests that it is being mantained by social reinforcement The instruments are acurate and complementary, although the use of the registration by lovv-instructed populations is a disadvantage.

Keywords : breast pain; interview; recording of data and information giving.
