Abstract

GUERRELHAS, Fabiana; BUENO, Mariana  and  SILVARES, Edwiges Ferreira de Mattos. Behavioral play therapy group X child recreational wait Group. Rev. bras. ter. comport. cogn. [online]. 2000, vol.2, n.2, pp. 157-169. ISSN 1517-5545.

This text aims to distinguish between two types of groups for children developed at the Psychological Service of the Psychology Institute (São Paulo University): play therapy and recreational groups. In both groups, children play with Psychology trainees, but in the recreational group children are also trained to change their inadequate behaviors through playing. Reasons for the existence of both groups as well as their particularities are discussed. It can be concluded that, despite a structural similarity between them, their different objectives lead to diverse results: the first group decreases the attrition rate whereas the second one diminishes the rates of children' problem behaviors.

Keywords : wait groups; university psychological service; attrition rate and child behavior therapy.
