This article aims to analyze the process of characters building of The Hours, by Michael Cunningham, considering a historical reading of the events in which the author has founded his plot to write the novel: the death of the English writer Virginia Woolf and the creation of her most known novel, Mrs. Dalloway. There is also an analyse of the novel adapted for the screen by David Hare and directed by Stephen Daldry.
