After briefly situating the theme on the mirror of mother's face within the context what Winnicott describes about the child's affective development and Lacan on the mirror phase in the construction of the ego, the objective of the paper is to reflect on the principal metamorphoses of the reflection of the mirror of the mother's face in the formation of the self, analyzing their vicissitudes progressively as the Magic Mirror, Glass Mirror and the True Mirror and the theoretical implications in the formation process of the child's false and true self.
