The changes in the world of the work, since the 1970, lead to new conditions of empregability, the increase of the unemployment and stirring up the emergency of new social values. The study of the unemployment from the standpoint of the unemployeds and its subjectivity is advocated. The objective was to investigate the sense produced by unemployeds of the industrial sector, in a city in the south of Minas Gerais, as well as understanding the subjective manifestation of these senses. A qualitative research and interviews it were used. The unemployment was verified as social product of the new conditions of empregability, as product of the transformations in the world of the work, as social exclusion, as an "arrest", as condition in search of a social place and as "symbolic death". Last senses had been identified, these senses represent theoretical elements for the study of the unemployment: "disqualified periphery", "violence and crime" and "symbolic death". We believe that this study can provide subsidies for more profound studies the phenomenon of the unemployment and, consequently, for other studies in the several fields.
