Abstract

NARVAZ, Martha  and  NARDI, Henrique Caetano. Problematizações feministas à obra de Michel Foucault. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2007, vol.7, n.1, pp. 45-70. ISSN 1518-6148.

This paper intends to discuss some aspects of Michel Foucault's work from a dialogue - mutually enriched - between Foucault and feminist studies. Without eliminating differences and tensions that are constituent of both perspectives, we believed that feminists can operate, based on conceptual tools developed by Foucault, to overcome dominant discourses about sex and gender, so much as foucaultians equally can enrich their analyses through incorporation of feminist arguments in its reflexions. Initially, we highlighted some convergences between Foucault and feminism, especially about ethics, freedom, power and critic to western reason and to subject's theory. To proceed our critique, we point to some problematical areas at Foucault's work, among them: Foucault's omission of gender and feminine eroticism issues in his writings. Finally, we discuss some implications of Foucault's choice in recuperating the relationship's model of Ancient Greece known as a male-centered, unequal and hierarchical, in his search to think modes of subjectification sustained in an ethics based on the reflexive practice of liberty in search of a new aesthetics of existence.

Keywords : feminism; feminist studies; gender; Michel Foucault; androcentric perspectives.
