ALBERTI, Sonia  e  ELIA, Luciano. Psychoanalysis and Science: the vergence of discourses. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.3, pp. 779-802. ISSN 1518-6148.

The fact that psychoanalysis is being rejected by a quite significant amount of authors who supposedly stand for the scientific discourse, a quite positivistic point of view, forces the psychoanalyst into a verification of the paradigms which articulate Psychoanalysis and Science. The specificity of this article is due to it's departure on an historical analysis discussed in association to Freud's ideas about the place of psychoanalysis in sciences, followed by an identification of three moments in Lacan's discussion on the subject. Initially, the discussion about the possibility of Psychoanalysis being a Science is answered by Lacan through an association of Psychoanalysis with conjectural sciences, opposed to experimental sciences. At this moment the author distinguished clearly between psychoanalysis and the so called human sciences. Nevertheless, this is still a proposition which can be told as still emphasizing more a positivistic version of epistemology with Popper. The big turning point will be given by Lacan at the moment in which he situates the subject in the centre of this question, observing that the subject is in relation with the object in the very field in which it is constituted. This observation only attains consistency with the invention of the object a. At this moment Lacan can step forwards and ask if science may sustain the psychoanalytic experience, and new paths are opened for further discussions that we present by identifying some possibilities to address the topic.
