This is the first time that in the history of humanity retired people constitutes a very significant part of the pyramid of population. Its growth creates labour, social, family and personal problems that affect to everybody apart of being a typical sing of our times. Retirement can be a well deserved free time, used in a desired personal development but also a senseless time featured by deterioration and boredom. The experience of a right and mature leisure plays an important role in this period of life, helping to face optimistically the new situation. However, few people have cultivated the skills that allow them to use time in a satisfactory way. Más allá del trabajo: el ocio de los jubilados deals with these issues, starting from data regarding Spanish reality with the aim of raising the issue in a general way beyond the borders of a particular country. Its pages put forward a set of guidelines to be considered from a labour period as well as guidance of active leisure directly experienced in the university environment.
