BEATRIZ, Marilene Zazula. O trabalho, a repressão e o mal-estar do trabalhador: algumas reflexões. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.4, pp. 1107-1130. ISSN 1518-6148.

Unemployment has been one of the issues that bring about a considerable increase in anxiety in individuals and social groups (formally employed or not) alike, which decreases the chances of said individuals and social groups to articulate criticism in order to rethink and search for other means of society that are capable of, effectively, promote freedom and not the imprisonment of the human being to matters of survival. This article aims at showing how work, more specifically employment - formal employment, which is typical of capitalistic production -, has taken the spotlight in society and has ended up being one of the great problems of modern society. This article also aims at showing this movement within the context of Brazilian history, from the settlement of the country to the so-called knowledge and information society, and the role of the repression of desires in the human being, based on Freud and Marcuse as to the formation of said society. Furthermore, the discomfort of workers, which under the cloak of contemporary events and based on the knowledge of Dejours, brings up important perceptions on the sequestering of the subjectivity of workers. The closing of the article brings some reflections on whether human beings will perform a more complex analysis of the real moment they are going through in order to search for real and concrete changes.
