RIOLFI, Claudia Rosa. Body and responsibility: the effects of psychoanalysis over degenerative sickness bearers. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.1, pp. 241-265. ISSN 1518-6148.

This paper takes as its object the effects of first fifteen weeks of psychoanalytic treatment guided by the so-called Second clinic of Jacques Lacan generated in the lives of degenerative diseases bearers that had their status confirmed at the Center for Studies of the Human Genome, CEGH - USP. It rests therefore; over the possibility of the analyst make a difference on the mode of enjoyment of a person, permitting him to be able to experience new ways of joy, disconnected from the masochistic pleasure. It seeks to answer the following question: what changes arise when the analyst is successful in the operation to separate the subject of the signifier to which he was alienated to? In order to answer our question, seven fragments of clinical cases, chosen from a corpus composed of 51 cases, partially recorded on video and in written reports were analyzed. It was possible to conclude that the main effects obtained were the following ones: 1) A change in the interpretation that the patient makes for the own disease; 2) The convocation of the uniqueness of the one who receives an unusual response for the banality of the way he sees his own life; 3) The construction of an ethics guided by the Responsibility Principle; 4) The establishment of an ethical status to the body as a result of a unique way of interpreting the contingencies of someone's life; and 5) the reintegration of the sexual dimension, with no default, into the patient's day-by-day. If, at least in the sphere of phenomena capable of empirical verification, psychoanalysis is not concerned with organic matter, it is noteworthy that patients with diseases for which no remedy is still found, are declaring that they feel much happier after a short period psychoanalysis. It seems that this fact opens the way for further research aiming to study the correlations between body and language.
