Abstract

VIEIRA FILHO, Nilson Gomes. Suffering and deinstitutionalization: Organizing a network support in mental health. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.1, pp. 309-333. ISSN 1518-6148.

The concept of "institutionalization syndrome" in Franco Basaglia is reviewed and reformed to the practice of alternative services in mental health in the context of Brazilian psychiatric reform. This syndrome is understood as a kind of a psychosocial illness consequence of the evolution of the patient psychological suffering, built or reinforced, in the course of adaptation during the process of institutionalization experiencing relations of subordination and moral/or psychological constraint into intervention and/or hospitalization or another total institution. Therapy in this clinical condition is implicated in the process of deinstitutionalization and the social transformation of the hospice culture of exclusion that has been introducing normativity in the contractual relationship of mental health care giving conditions of possibility for interdisciplinary clinical actions, particularly in articulating the work of mental health services and primary care ( family health). In this context, therapeutic dialogical relation and social network approach suppose a dual empathic process that could be extended to other members of staff service and the person (s) of the relationship (s) significantly (s) of the patient and reflections about multifocal transfers. The interdisciplinary diagnosis expected is co-constructed in everyday life and in reunion (s) with the staff of professionals as a part of the therapeutic project of the patient being coherent with his community mental health treatment, including a network support. It is expected that this theoretical reformulation could contribute to future interdisciplinary research in psychology.
