MARTINS, José Clerton de Oliveira et al. The quality free time from collective discourses. Rev. Mal-Estar Subj [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.1-2, pp. 41-72. ISSN 1518-6148.

The number of studies approaching the "free time" question is increasing in various disciplines. People live in an epoch of contradictions, and, in this perspectives, they must avail themselves to work to satisfy their survival needs, or just consume the ephemeral, which summons symbols for "to be", in times of hyper consumerism. On the other hand, people wish for a free time to get in touch with other areas that could lead to immersions, guiding them to be whom they are. So, encouraged by questions that lead to reflections on what would be a quality free time, it was decided to conduct the study that originated this article. The methodology for achieving its objectives is based on a qualitative approach, in which was used, for data collection, the qualiquantisoft software (Qlqt) and, for its analyses, the collective subject discourse (DSC). The results lead to conclude that the investigated subjects, despite the influence of consumerism in the contemporary society, which leads to commodification of human needs, aim to find quality in the enjoyment of their free time, as they seek alternatives to live autonomously the social time perceived as free, with activities that meet legitimate human needs.

Palavras-chave : Contemporaneity; free time; work; collective subject discourse; consumerism.
