The aim is to analyze the insertion modes and the technical and political effects of psychologist presence in Mental Health. It is considered that the way each professional inserts himself, handles theoretical practical knowledge, and organizes his political-professional actions, may or may not actualize and give support to necessary changes to the effectuation of the psychiatric reform. It is a qualitative study, based on a documental research and a field work in Teresina/PI. Among the psychologists acting in mental health in the city, 29 were interviewed with guidance of a semi-structured script. As to results, observed that professionals are young, graduated 10 years, with little experience in the area. Moreover, they work in precarious conditions and low salaries, the reason why they have other jobs, highlighting private practice. It was found that professionals demonstrate great link with traditional acting modes and little commitment in developing new practices in mental health. This produces direct effects in the organization of work processes and team functioning ways, maintaining psychologists away from psychosocial perspective, as well as of the struggle to actualize Mental Health Politics underway in country. In addition, it is observed the agency of a way of being psychologist operator of governmental practices of control of subjectivities and life.
