Abstract

MOURA, Danielle Ferreira Gomes. Maternity and power. Rev.Mal-Estar Subj [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.1-2, pp. 387-404. ISSN 1518-6148.

In this work, we addressed the function of the mother, emphasizing her dimension of power from the theoretical-clinical psychoanalytical perspective, in order to discuss its effects on the subject in constitution. For this, we used, basically, the theoretical constructs of Freud and Lacan, as well as significant contributions of other psychoanalysts on this subject. We introduced, initially, the concept of subject and its constitution from the Freudian theory of the Edipus complex and symbolic operations, called by Lacan, of alienation and separation. We acknowledge, in the feminine, the woman's relation to castration and the absence of the inscription of the significant of her sex in the unconscious, in order to consider their implications with regard to motherhood. From this discussion, we discuss the subjective place given to the child and its subjective implications. We covered the father figure interdiction, highlighting its role concerning the emergence of the desire on the side of the maternal Other and the subject in constitution, thus underscoring its pivotal role. We point out the role of motherhood and the concept of love, with emphasis on its ambivalent nature. We highlighted the desire as balancing the experience of motherhood and we focus on the relationship between maternal and enjoyment in order to point out the possible harmful effects on the small being in constitution.

Keywords : maternity; power; castration; love; desire; joy.
