Resumen

This paper aims to clarify the issues of consumption today, a society called hypermodern, in which goods purchased not only allocates a social status, but also infers a symbolic identity. Based on literature and documents from the authors: Cuenca, Oliveira, Salis, Lipovetsky, Freud, Kehl, Debord etc., who based the understanding that, within society experiences of consumption are often permeated by a sense of "hyper" desires, which are often intense and grandiose. Society, obsessed with physical desires, does not experience a more creative and autonomous lifestyle with meaningful reflection. Through this, we comprehend the Western understanding of time and how this notion affects subjectivity; we observe crossovers between Psychoanalysis and Leisure, in order to understand how consumer relations are handled in the power game of the satisfactions produced by propaganda. Finally, we intend to answer if the subject influenced by over consumption can escape consumerism and become enlightened to an autonomous lifestyle of creativity from leisure.
