Abstract

MOMESSO, Cesar Turino et al. Young athletes perception on the involvement of parents in relation to their sporting participation. Cad. Pós-Grad. Distúrb. Desenvolv. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.1, pp. 66-73. ISSN 1519-0307.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of young athletes on the involvement of their parents in relation to their participation in soccer. Was applied Parental Involvement Sport Questionnaire (IPCS), Likert type instrument, composed of nineteen items distributed in three aspects: directive behavior; Compliments and understanding; Active involvement. The analyzed data was restricted to descriptive statistics. The data suggest higher scores for the aspects of "directive behavior" for both the category Under-15 (3.2±1.5) and for the Under-17 (3.0±1.3) and "Praise and understanding" for the Under-15 (2.9±1.8) and Under-17 (2.6±1.1), respectively. However, the result obtained in the factor "active involvement" is presented in the categories Under-15 (3.0±1.7) and Under-17 (2.8±0.8) with the lowest average value. The results obtained in this study corroborate those found in the literature. The assessed athletes generally claim upon their parents, needing support and control their behavior during soccer practice. We conclude that when analyzing the involvement of parents in relation to the soccer club that their children were inserted, the results showed low parental commitment to their children.
