SA, Carolina Belli Amorim de et al. Evaluation of short-term memory in children at the beginning of elementary school. Cad. Pós-Grad. Distúrb. Desenvolv. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.1, pp. 47-65. ISSN 1519-0307.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/cadernosdisturbios.v18n1p47-65.

This study aimed to compare the performance in the Children's Memory Test (CMT) between 7 and 8 year olds from public and private schools, as well as to verify if there is a relationship between the performance in TIME with the maternal schooling level and notes in the Portuguese and Mathematics in children at the beginning of Elementary School. Participated 100 boys and girls, being 48 from public school and 52 from private school. The TIME consists of six subtests of eight items, which evaluate verbal and visuospatial aspects of the short-term memory (STM). Parents completed a questionnaire with some family indicators. TIME was applied individually in children. The results showed significant differences between ages in TIME, as well as among the types of school, with higher performance of private school children. Positive, significant correlations and magnitude ranging from low to moderate were observed between TIME and scores in Portuguese and Mathematics performance. It was also observed an association between maternal level of education and performance in TIME. These findings point to the relevance of external criteria associated with performance in phonological and visuo-spatial MCP tasks.
