Abstract

CHAIM, Maria Paula Miranda; COSTA NETO, Sebastião Benício da; PEREIRA, Aminny Farias  and  GROSSI, Fabiana Regina da Silva. Life quality of caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders: a bibliographic review. Cad. Pós-Grad. Distúrb. Desenvolv. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.1, pp. 9-34. ISSN 1519-0307.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/cadernosdisturbios.v19n1p9-34.

The autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, which is presented in early childhood and has been raising relevant questions in the scientific field due to the fact that 1% of the population is diagnosed with it and it does not present a defined etiological cause. Beyond the child with ASD, there is a family that also needs caring and support. Considering this, this article is a systematic bibliographic review, which aims to answer the following questions: "How does scientific literature present the state-of-the-art investigations on the life quality of parents of children with ASD?" and "Which are the main characteristics pointed by scientific literature?". Thus, the objective was to analyze the most recent scientific production on this theme. The bibliographic research was conducted on the website Capes, using the descriptors: "life quality", "caregivers" along with "autism", in Portuguese and English. 746 articles were identified, from which 18 fit the pre-established criteria. It was proved that studies on this theme are still few, and among the existing ones, data expresses that caregivers of children with ASD suffer of losses correlated to psychological factors and the absence of social support.
