Abstract

HELOANI, Roberto. A walk in the shoes of pilots: a political reflection on the conditions and organization of work of the flight controllers. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.16, pp. 205-230. ISSN 2175-1390.

In this article we aim to start a concise reflection about the conditions and the work organization of Brazilian flight controllers, considering their implications on the health of these workers, that are immersed in nowadays conjuncture of the so called “air crisis”. This instability is going to turn into something ‘fantastic’ in the media’s point of view. On the other hand, ways of communication frequently don’t seem to present a bigger effort of the investigative journalism to understand this conjuncture in a more extensive way. This fact can partially be explained by the visible process that makes the journalists’ work precarious (and we cannot forget that they are our opinion molders). As a matter of fact, this article is a qualitative study developed under the logical of the method historic-dialectic, which apprehends the reality in its dynamism. In-depth interviews were carried out with 21 air pilots of Brazilian air companies.

Keywords : Flight controllers; Air crisis; Health in the work; Work organization; Political psychology.
