PAIVA, Ilana Lemos de  y  YAMAMOTO, Oswaldo Hajime. The new Quijotes of psychology and the social practice in the “third sector”. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.16, pp. 231-250. ISSN 2175-1390.

This article develops a reflection about the psychologist interaction possibilities on the “third sector” field, through communitarian practice. Despite the critical poverty and social differences frame in which we live in Brazil, current perspectives aim for the end of the “Intervener State” and for the reduction of social policies public expenses. With the State shrinkage, the “third sector” is being commissioned to pacify the social matter, reducing it to the social duty scope. Summoned to social duty, the psychologist also starts to work on the verge of exclusion, without questioning the functionality and political implications of the new scenario. The presented perspective is that in the social interventions field, and substantiality in the “third sector”, psychologists would be “new quixotes”, acting with good will, great transformation dreams, but doing actions that do not come from a critical and proper view of reality, not seeing its real possibilities and its boundaries of action. Lastly, we defend that, with professional insertion, improvement in life quality and welfare must me persued, through an proactive intervention, seeking persons, groups and communities development, organization and emancipation.
