This article analyses the meanings and implications of the absence of images related to the ideas of sexual diversity in the books distributed by the Brazilian National Program of Schoolbooks (PNLD) and National Program of Schoolbooks for High School (PNLEM), taking into consideration that the inclusion of such images is recommended by Brazilian National Curriculum Parameters (PCNs) - Sexual Orientation. Based on a sample of 70% of the most distributed books among public schools, the research identified the nonexistence of any illustration of the homosexuality theme in this material. The article proposes an interpretation of the consequences of this process of silencing to affirmative policies concerning sexual minorities. Also, it examines the possibilities of implicit contribution from school contents to the maintenance of homophobic social behaviors in Brazil.
