Abstract

In this article the role of Political Psychology is discussed as a scientific field that carries a social role. For that, the most frequent definitions in specialized literature are analyzed, ticking the possibilities and limitations, and showing the present stream to consider Political Psychology as a subdiscipline that must create its own theories, becoming independent of Political Sciences. Even so, it is discussed what usually is signed as its object and field of study, showing the inconsistencies and strengths and the main Latin-American contribution. Also the factors, obstacles and challenges that this field of Psychology has before it.
