This paper approach the conflict between racialism and antiracialism in discourses of universitary students at Federal University of Pernambuco. It focuses on the meaning of the term race and terms used to classify people according to color/race in Brazil. The process of analysis was based in the theorical-methodologic orientation of a set of authors that develop a discourse oriented social psycology. Different meanings were identified for the term race, what indicates its polysemic character in the studied group. Essencialist interpretations weren’t identified for the term race and terms used to classify people according to color/race in Brazil. Different discursive strategies were mobilized to combat the racialism.
