Abstract

ARAN, Márcia. Politics of desire in present time: psychoanalysis and homoparentality. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.21, pp. 59-72. ISSN 2175-1390.

Considering the current debate on homoparentality, this article aims to reflect the extent to which some psychoanalytical arguments eventually recreate the heteronormativity, mainly through concepts such as “sexual difference” and the “double reference identity”. For this, two arguments will be developed: the first concerns the need for preservation of the “family” institution - heterosexual - as the basic cell of society, resisting to recognize other forms of family life; the second, the need to preserve “the symbolic”, that is, “sexual difference”, as a condition of culture, without conceiving other possibilities of symbolization. Finally it proposes to disjoint the notion of otherness from the notion of sexual difference in psychoanalysis so that psychoanalysis won’t be restricted to a reductionist model of social relations and can reinvent a new conception of difference.

Keywords : Homoparentality; Sexual difference; Psychoanalysis; Otherness.
