Abstract

Looking for the encounter between traditional populations and the modern cultural strengths, the general objective of the study was of circumscribing, between the population of quilombolas, still resident in the called Região do Sapê, north of the state of Espírito Santo, the reminiscences traditionally related with the group; to identify his paper in the articulation and resignation of the new contents brought by the modernity; to investigate the arrangement what it makes possible to formulate the identity in this environment and connect this representations of this past shared to the environmental and social changes that recently shocked this region. Altogether 21 participants, men and women of three generations and still residents in the communities composed the study. For collection of the data a semi-structured itinerary of interview was used and the obtained results interpreted accordingly to the presuppositions of Analysis of content.
